Hualien

We had an hour and a bit before we had to catch a further train to Xincheng (near the entrance to Taroko Gorge). * The skyline was gorgeous! I miss the Vancouver skyline it was nice to see real mountains again. When I come back to Taiwan, I will definitely come back here.

This non-descript exterior housed one of the most unassuming and delicious meals ever.

*A complete aside: don’t go to Xincheng station to get to the gorge unless you are renting scooters to explore on your own. There are cabs that offer tour packages, similar to Jiufen, but the cabbies at the station were pushy, unhelpful and more than a bit rude to us. We would have been better off taking a cab or tour bus from Hualien.
